President’s Message for July 2006

Back to School

Well, in a way. If you attended college or have seen the movie Animal House, I’m sure you’ve heard of a “Rush Party”. The idea is that you invite people to a party and try to get them to join your fraternity, sorority, or in our case, the Mardi Gras Region PCA. MGRPCA member Richard Martin thought that this might be a good way to get new Porsche owners interested in the club. With the help of Walter Barbier from Porsche of New Orleans and past MGRPCA President, Chris Wilken and current MGRPCA Registrar, Lois Wilken, we will be hosting our own version of this type of event. We will be inviting all new Porsche owners and current MGRPCA members, to Hugh’s Wine Cellar in Mandeville for a meet and greet. The tentative date would be August 19th from 3-6 PM. Additional details will follow and will be posted on the website – please check back often.

To follow up on an event I spoke of last month, Randy Greff from Greff Motor’s is interested in hosting an open house of his new shop as soon as the finishing touches are completed. Please check our website for all the details. If you haven’t seen the new Greff Motors, you’re in for a treat!

On a final note, I must say that I have been pretty disappointed with the turnout at our monthly meetings. Since we started having them again post Katrina, which was January of this year, our largest gathering as been 10 people but we have been averaging between 5 and 6 people per meeting. I will start sending out monthly email reminders to all the members that we have email addresses for in the hopes that we can get our count up. It does not make the greatest impression on new or potentially new members when they attend their first meeting and discover that we could have held our meeting in a Cayenne! Please make a sincere effort to attend at least one meeting every two months.
