President’s Message for June 2007

Keep on Movin’

Yes, it’s been a while since I have written; since the holidays as a matter of fact. Where have I been? Twisting in the wind, trying to figure out just how I am going to proceed with my mid-life crisis. I have actually come full circle. Late last summer I began to seriously consider hanging up the racing shoes and perhaps, sports cars altogether. I bought a motorcycle, my first, and spent all the time I used to spend tinkering with the race car, learning how to ride a motorcycle. I joined a riding club, read everything I could find about bikes, and completely turned a blind eye to the race car sitting on jack stands in the garage. I started telling people that my trailer was for sale and perhaps the race car too. I began to visualize all the space I would have in the garage once the parts car and race car were gone and began imagining that space filled with five or six motorcycles. I couldn’t figure it out. My wife, Cindy, actually was in favor of keeping the car and trailer (two things she likes about as much as gingivitis) since I had finally gotten everything where it essentially needed to be and would represent a huge financial loss if I sold it all. This was because she knew that eventually I would want to race again, and when that finally happened, it would cost even more money to start over (this is why she handles all the household finances).

So now here I am. I traded in my first bike and bought a new, bigger bike about six weeks ago but I’m also beginning to think about the things I need to do to get the car (and driver) back in shape for racing. I have been telling everyone that 2007 is my sabbatical year and that I will be racing again in 2008. I’m starting to get that itch that can only be scratched by executing a four wheel drift after hitting that apex perfectly. Plus, I’ve missed all my race mates and buddies at the track. So, am I finished with my mid-life crisis? Who knows, but at least I’ll be around in case you want to ask.
