President’s Message for March 2006Lousy One Day, Excellent the NextI’m talking about the weather at our first DE event of the 2006 driving season. Saturday started with rain and very chilly temperatures but by about midday, we had lots of rain and cool temperatures, and then finished with lots more rain and chilly temperatures. Did I mention that we had rain? One positive that a rainy day at the track always provides is the ability to practice car control. Our CDI (chief driving instructor) Ken Laborde, made this point clear during the morning driver’s meeting. He asked that the drivers take the opportunity to practice skill sets that the slower, wet track would allow them to practice that a dry track would not. At lunch, John Crosby showed some in-car video from his GT3 Cup Car from the Sebring sprint race a few weeks earlier. As always, it did not fail to impress. In my opinion, in-car video is always fun to watch but it’s especially impressive from super fast cars. After lunch, fewer and fewer cars chose to go out on the track with the exception of those drivers who decided to take their cars out on the wet skid pad that E.V.O.C. has. As a result, the decision was made to end the day early (with no protests) and start the bar room festivities at the only country club in Zachary that would have Lane Sutton as a member. Thanks Lane! Sunday’s weather was magnificent with sunny blue skies and cool temperatures that gave way to mild temperatures later in the day. The track was completely dry by mid-morning and all the participants took advantage of the long run sessions that each of the three run groups were allowed. Several of the students went back out on the skid pad as well. I also showed some of my in-car footage from the recent Sebring club race and unlike J.C.’s footage, and as is usually the case with my footage, no one was particularly impressed. All in all, it was a good weekend. We have another DE scheduled the end of April, so if you can make it, please do. Hoping you always hit the apex, Scott Foremaster
