President’s Message for May 2006

Successful Weekend

Today’s Tuesday and I was reflecting on a great weekend just past. On Saturday afternoon, John and Cathy Crosby were gracious enough to host a BBQ and pot luck dinner at their beautiful home so that the race committee could hold their first official meeting under the direction of Paul Tellarico.

Paul asked several people to attend and most of those asked were able to show. Those in attendance were the Laborde’s, the Tellarico’s, the Foremaster’s, the Small’s, the Wilken’s, the Quinlan’s, and Bob van de Naker from Ronald McDonald House, which is the Mardi Gras region’s designated charity. This was the first of probably one or two more meetings to be held prior to the club race in November. The main thrust of the meeting was to decide what the format of the event would be, who would be responsible for specific duties, discuss strategies to maximize the number of participants, and brain storm on giveaways, trophies, parties, etc… Paul came prepared and so did everyone else. It was decided that for the first time, we would have a 60 minute enduro along with the sprint race. Please check the website for further details.

On Sunday, we held our first ever joint DE with our friends from the Whiskey Bay region. Ron Gaubert and Chris Thompson from Whiskey Bay worked closely with our own Lane Sutton to organize this event and what a fine job they did! We had 45 participants with 13 green students, several of which were participating in their first ever DE. Lois Wilken did her usual stellar job as our registrar to make sure that all went smoothly on the paperwork side of things. Brent Mosing provided the grilled burgers and sausage, all the fixin’s and bread pudding to boot! It looked as though we had enough food for a two day event instead of just one. All in all it was a great event and a great weekend!
